Start simple with AI and
become a pro with
easy steps

AI programs such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft’s Co-Pilot can serve as “personal assistants” to simplify work. These programs, some that are free to use, can both create new content from previous information, as well as analyze and help us understand existing information.

In short, knowing how to use artificial intelligence (AI) can save time and increase productivity. It can be used for writing, computer coding, reviewing information, prioritizing email, and more.

Work faster easily

Need to write something? AI can help generate ideas, as well as analyze and simplify the writing process. By learning from mistakes and applying AI’s suggestions, you’ll spend less time correcting errors later.

AI can be especially helpful for software developers. They can assign AI to write simple code while they focus their attention on improving other areas of their work.

Research shows AI helps businesses be more efficient by organizing work and improving many business processes. AI can quickly skim documents such as long PDFs to summarize or find specific information quickly.

Even your email inbox can benefit from AI prioritizing messages. Imagine if you had a personal assistant going through your email inbox after a week-long vacation. You could do your work in order of importance without having to skim each message yourself!

Writing perfect prompts

The key to generating answers effectively with AI is to provide proper context, assign it a task, and include a constraint, which is a limitation or restriction. This means the most helpful prompts have specific instructions about what you want and how the information will be used.

For example, you can use AI to find ways to help your kids do their math homework. Instead of having to know how to do every equation for each problem, you can:

  • Provide context that you are helping your 8th-grade child with their homework.
  • Assign it the task to solve the problem and explain the steps like a teacher for you to help your child.
  • Give a constraint to present steps in a numbered list, allowing you to teach your child how to solve problems quickly.

Even if you don’t know how to solve every equation, with AI you can help with any tricky math problem and bond with your child in the process.

Avoid frauds online

AI is often criticized for being used to copy and paste unoriginal content. To avoid this, AI should not be used in place of human work. Rather, use it to enhance work and accomplish tasks faster.

One of the biggest fears about AI is being able to distinguish it from human work. Sometimes generated images can be misused to attract attention on social media and even go as far as being used to fraudulently win art competitions. It’s important to be aware that it can also be used to commit fraud, and to learn how to spot AI generated content.

Thankfully, AI image and writing detectors already exist, such as Grammarly and WasItAI, to find false creations. Novices can use telltale signs to identify artificial content. Examples include the use of phrases like “Dive in,” titles with a colon, or images showing people with an incorrect number of fingers.

Even if you aren’t skilled at AI, knowing how it works can help you understand why it is a valuable tool for many jobs today and how it can improve efficiency for many others.
