Farm meets fashion: a little fun
with a little hard work

With a passion for fashion and a love for cows, Lindsey Beckstrand opened Silver Creek Boutique in Marion to provide a local shopping option that complements the Midwestern lifestyle.

Since opening, Lindsey’s boutique has evolved into a haven for casual, everyday wear with a touch of Western flair.

“I’m more of your jeans kind of girl – however I can make a pair of jeans look good – that’s my dress up,” Lindsey says.

In 2019, Lindsey established Silver Creek Boutique from her home. By the fall of 2020, Lindsey brought a bit of her country, boho, farm, and class fashion to Broadway Avenue in Marion. This year marks the boutique’s third year in the building and fourth year overall.

Familiar faces, community connections

Lindsey also works as a registered nurse and enjoys farm life with her husband Justin and their two children. Lindsey is from Woonsocket and enjoys living in Justin’s hometown of Marion. She values building connections with her customers and giving them opportunities to embrace the Midwestern lifestyle through fashion.

“Growing up on a small farm and in a small town, I enjoy knowing almost all of the faces that walk into my store,” Lindsey says.

When her boutique began in her home, she was crafting leather earrings. Lindsey also ventured into smaller towns for pop-up shops and added a small clothing line. This included bringing merchandise along to the Turner County Fair in Parker and the South Dakota State Fair in Huron, which she still does today.

When space became an issue at home, Lindsey moved Silver Creek Boutique to a brick-and-mortar building on Marion’s main drag. It offers everything from jeans to graphic tees and from flannels to custom-burned hats. The store also has home décor and gifting items such as Tumblrs and candles, providing the community with a convenient local option.

Challenges in small towns

Running her store in a small town has its challenges. Lindsey emphasizes the importance of understanding her local clientele, keeping her inventory fresh, and growing her online presence. Thankfully, her internet speeds from Golden West help her navigate these challenges.

“I’m constantly on the website uploading pictures, and when customers are in the store, I rely on my speedy Golden West connections for point of sales and purchases,” Lindsey says.

Despite Lindsey’s busy lifestyle and schedule, she opens the store in downtown Marion on specified evenings and weekends. She enjoys giving the community a place to shop and showing her children that hard work pays off.

“The boutique is where I can have a little fun with a little hard work,” Lindsey says.
